Thanks for your reply Jack Russell, At the moment, I don't really know the space and bandwidth required. I don't think it will be a lot to start with, but all depends on the traffic we get to the site I guess. We'll start with several pages, a blog type site, so should not have any large images or videos.
There is a handfull of affiliate type website ideas so I'd like to be able to add multiple domains with minimum startup costs
Thanks
G

Thanks Jack, I had a live chat with someone at Eukhost earlier today which was very helpful. We were looking at the windows package mainly because our background is Windows and not Unix/Linux, although we know a little. What is the benefit to the Linux over Windows hosting and do we need to know any linux based stuff?
Thanks again
If you intend to develop your site using ASP, FrontPage, ASP.NET environment, , Access, MS SQL Server, or any of the other Microsoft’s owned technologies then you should opt for Windows hosting. Otherwise Linux would be best![]()

You don't need the same operating system on your computer as on your server. A shared Windows hosting account doens't have a start menu or anything.
As Jack mentioned, unless you need specific technologies Linux is the way to go. Windows servers have fewer programs available and are generally more expensive.

If you are planning to use PHP and MySQL combination to build your website then Linux hosting would be the best option to go for. With shared hosting package you will get control panel through which you will be able to manage your website. Control panel automates a large number of tasks and allows you to concentrate on productivity.

Thanks for all your replies. We've decided to go for Eukhost. Currently waiting for our welcome e-mail, so that we can register our domain name and point to the name server. One thing which we thought was there was no credit card payment method, so maybe we have to wait for the money to clear before we get the welcome e-mail with the name servers we need?
Good Luck with your new host. :tup
