TOM FORD’S DIRECTIONAL DEBUT IS A STYLISH AFFAIR
Model-turned actor is quite a common career change, designer-turned-screenwriter/producer/director much less so, but that didn’t stop Tom Ford.
Everyone knows the story - now a modern fashion legend - that Ford left his distinguished role at the helm of the Gucci empire to turn his hand to something different, something untested, something on celluloid.
That was five years ago and everyone has waited, with bated breath, to see what his designer-clad next move would be. In the meantime, we’ve had the fragrance, sunglasses and menswear line, but it was the film that we really wanted. A kind of Mad Men meets Fellini masterpiece perhaps?
Well, A Single Man, based on an Isherwood novel, debuted at the Venice Film Festival last Friday and doesn’t disappoint. A very stylish affair – Ford’s statement is certainly not a kitchen sink one, that’s for sure.
From slick tailoring to narrow collared white shirts, skinny black ties and retro casualwear everything about this film is beautiful. It will be to men, what Sex & the City is to women…
