By the time he was 25, Fred Perry had already been lawn tennis number one and table tennis world champion.

He remains the youngest player to win all four of the Grand Slam titles and who knows, perhaps this was partly down to his fastidious dress sense. Seriously. Ever the eccentric, he bamboozled his opponents by changing into fresh whites halfway through a game. So perhaps it was no surprise when, in the late 1940s he turned his attention to creating clothes. This started with his co-invention of a wristband, in collaboration with an Austrian footballer.
