EON has just become the 5th of the 6 major suppliers to hike its prices this winter, increasing its standard tariff by an average of 5% on 4th Feb, equating to approximately £60 per year for millions of its customers. This means its standard tariff is no longer the cheapest, having been leap-frogged by EDF, but beware – EDF’s “price freeze” expires less than a month after EON’s price rise comes into effect.
Now that all major suppliers have shown their hand, it’s easy to see where customers stand: standard tariffs can be up to £200 more expensive than the supplier’s cheapest online tariff. In the case of EON, their price rise will make their tariff on average £192 more expensive than their Online Saver v4.
Millions of households are still on standard tariffs, unaware that they could save hundreds by finding a cheaper tariff online, so encourage them to compare and switch now. Energyhelpline.com pays £20 per domestic switch and £50 per business energy switch.
