    Hi Peter,

I am a little annoyed to be honest.

I want to use webgains as an additional network but i have no idea why you have 10,000 categories! It wouldnt be a problem if all products had to be in a bottom level category. But they could be anywhere and it is basically impossible integrate your feeds with any other network.

It would be good if you had a another category database that affiliates could use to have a more basic approach to it. For example, you have "cars & accessories" and then you have sub cats for "cars" and "accessories". It I wanted to import your merchant feeds into an established site I could match your categories to my categories if the products were in the final/bottom level cats. BUT there could be 20,000 accessories in the "cars and accessories" category and also 10,000 cars. So this would cause problems when trying to import the products.

If every product HAD to be in a bottom level category it would be fine. OR even if there were products were in the 2nd or 3rd level cats it could be ok(not perfect but ok).

BUT if there are products in a top level category it wouldnt be workable, is there no way of telling what percentage of products are in the bottom level cats or 2nd/3rd categories?

The reason being, I dont want to match 10,000 categories if im only going to receive 10% of the products because the other 90% are in the higher level cats.

Do you see what I mean? If I knew that 90% of products were in bottom level cats it would be worth it but apparently theres no way to tell?!

Please can you let me me know.

    ta

    mike

    Hi Mike,
can you drop me an email with what the problem is, as I dont' quite understand the issue.

Our categorisation tries to be as detailed as possible; it does however rely on the categorisations merchants provide - if they start generalising in their categories, we can't drill down, we have to map on top level. This is the reason why we list both the WG category and the merchant category - so affiliates can use whichever they prefer.

We try to get as good categories from the merchants as possible, but it's a tricky process. If you give me some specific programs where you've found the categories inadequate, we can look into it further and liaise with the merchants in question.

Drop me an email at hero@webgains.com

    thanks

I've only recently joined the Webgains network but all of my experience thus far has been very positive. There are some differences between US networks and the UK networks so it's taken me a teeny bit of time to find my way around the interface but everybody I've had contact with is very eager to help and very nice. I give them a very big thumbs up so far

What's happened to the reports in the admin area?

Webgains used to have the quickest, most detailed reporting and now it's all changed!

Site/Campaign Overview > Today .....now only shows the days activity for the selected site and not all sites. Why? The other way was much better!

Also, clicking on commission amounts and sales within the reports often brings up just zeros and no sales data ?? :scared

Can you please send me an email (hero@webgains) with your campaign ID and the problems, so that our tech team look into them?

I am glad I am not the only one that prefers the old version. Have already raised the issue with WG.

the campaign overview has been changed back to show all campaigns by default.

the new reports, with the exception of the new graphs, have the same functionality as before. We have upgraded them to include more information than before (product ID, voucher code, commission type) and you can now further customise your reports to include the info you want with a simple drag & drop functionality.

This is the first release of our upgrade to the reporting system. We will be releasing more upgrades in the coming weeks. The upgrade has seen our whole system upgraded so that we can pass on more information to our merchants and affiliates for more informed decisions and activity evaluation. This has come as a result of client requests and market needs, so please keep your feedback coming.

As I mentioned, we are ironing the new interface out. If anyone has any problems or suggestions, please email me directly so that we look at them straight away

    thanks

    thank you for your comments.
Video tutorials are something we have looked at and have done some trials but we're still tweaking them. We have however been doing features in our affiliate newsletter and our blog giving tips on our interface, and our Affiliate Guide has a very detailed analysis of all functionality. Of course, we would be more than happy to help you out with anything you're unsure of, so please don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

I don't work with Webgains as much only due to giving up my UK product price comparison about a year or so ago, but while working for them, I thought they was pretty good, earned some money and got payouts on time in anycase unlike some programs out there. Also had some great merchants and nice datafeed offerings.

Any chance of a Firefox or Chrome browser plugin which allows you to generate deeplinks to a merchant by browsing to their site and clicking the button - similar to those available on Affiliate Window and Buy.at?

That'd make my day, and save a fair bit of time

    Hi

Thanks for the suggestion. We're always adding to our functionality and affiliate suggestions are always high on list when new tools/features are planned. Unfortunately, there's only so many we can implement at once but we'll definitely add this to the wish list.

    Thanks again,

    Andy
