  Re: dmoz

Getting listed in Dmoz is good.. Can take anything from 3 weeks to 2 months to have any effect. PR 4/10 is good but then my personal home page has a PR 6/10 and that was because I done 2 invisible links form 2 top PR ranking sites to get that. So Dmoz is not the be all and end all but is sure as hell helps loads.. But try and get a few PR 6/10, 7/10 or dare I say PR 8/10 sites to link to you for at least a full month and you will be laughing.

Did I say invisible, tut tut.. I meant hard to see links you can't see but the spiders just eat them up.

You know you can make your server show a page that only Google bot will see, same with the others.. you just need to know what the visiting agent or IP address range will be... however I not really spent any time doing that kind of thing.

  Cloaking

Clarke,

Your describing IP cloaking.

The irony is that the search engines are the worst offenders of this sort of thing, if you are an AOL user you are deemed to be from the US and if you type in www.altavista.com it will take you to the US version, if you are in the UK and type that in you get taken to the UK version.

The reason it's viewed as bad is because most people that suffer the penalties imposed have done it so badly. As stupid as search engine spiders are they can and do change their IP addresses, so unless you use an up to date IP list you run the risk, and the older the list the bigger the risk of getting caught with your hand in the till so to speak.

If you want to read an interesting article on cloaking from the very best practitioner around then you need to look at www.searchengineblog.com/...tmeier.htm The gentleman concerned is more commonly known as fantomaster and what he doesn't know about cloaking doesn't need knowing, his newsletter is superb (and coming from someone that publishes one also I think that is lavish praise!)

Enjoy.

  Re: Cloaking

I got on DMOZ first time.. but now I regret the placement of it, I wish I had chosen a better place. Still I get around 4,000 UVs per day.

I'm trying to get another site listed now.
