Sponsor a joke, but how much?

I run a humour site with hundreds of jokes and pictures which I originally started out just so I could learn web design.

The site now receives a lot of traffic without any PPC and the cost for bandwidth is high which is why I now have advertising within the site.

The problem I have is that being a general humour site I find it hard pin pointing a market to advertise that works. On all my pages I have a prominent advert in my nav header which I normally only profit from at xmas with gadget sites. However if I put general banners to my other sites I often get a good click through rate.

This has given me the idea that I could let webmasters sponsor a joke or funny picture and get them traffic. It wouldn't get penalized as a link directory or exchange because it will only be one add a page.

So my question is how much should I ask for each page of advertising per year, £10, £25, £50, £100+? Each page gets thousands of views and the index pages get 100k's.

Any advise would be greatly received.

Mike

Have you tried CPM advertising or adsense - if you get a lot of traffic and your sites clean (no porn etc..) CPM could be the way to go.

I haven't considered CPM. Do you have any recommended sites?

Did a quick search on the forum and can across these:

adviva.net
adlink.net

AdBrite is a possibility you can look at. Of course for most content sites, Google AdSense is normally pretty good, but you will most likely find that you won't get very good matches from a jokes site... it could be worth a try though.

Have a look at what similar sites are advertising.. it'll also help if you know where your audience comes from unless you can do geotargetting. T-Shirts and Ringtones are pretty common from memory.

Thanks for the info,

I have tried Adsense but as you say, jokes and pictures don't make for very good results.

90% of my traffic is UK based. I've tried Jamster but have have ringtones in the site already.

I'll have to go through the sites mentioned and see whats on offer.
