  Which marketing channel to choose?

Greetings to all,

I'm launching a new virtual betting site designed for UK traffic. I have all my marketing troops ready for battle including PPC, Banners, affiliates and PR.
the big question is where to start?

Kick of is in about a month... and I'm not certain which channel to choose first.
Has anyone had any experience in a massive launch before?

Help would be highly appreciated!

cheers
Ofer

I think you need to try and do as many of those at the same time as possible!

Otherwise, I would launch an affiliate programme with banners, and allow affiliates to run some PPC campaigns for you to kick start the site.

PR is really important for a launch, so definately get started on that.

I wouldn't invest in banner advertising until you know things like site conversion.

Thanks Naomi!
do you have any idea of the monthly retainer that a PR service will charge me?

It depends on what you want the PR agency do and how involved you want to be in the process. If you're writing a lot of the copy and they are mostly just sending out press releases then it could be from £500ish to around £1500 per month. If you want them to do more then it really depends on the activities and the time each will take for each.

Try to find someone experienced in your industry though, they will already have the contacts set up so should theoretically be a quicker and more effective process

Cheers Steve, as you said, we don't need a big happening event, a few references on the print newspapers or major big Football sites would be excellent for us. Do you happen to know a good PR office that actually charges £1500? so far all the PR I turned to wanted a minimum 3k to start with.

I can't recall offhand which I've used in the past, the last one was a couple of years ago now. There was an initial higher charge for them to research the company, industry and competitors but then the cost was somewhere in the region of 1.5k per month. The company we used was a relative newcomer, all the bigger agencies will charge a lot more.

Re: Which marketing channel to choose?

thanks again Stevo,
By the way, I'm turning to be a big fan of StumbleUpon » Welcome to StumbleUpon, apparently its a very cheap and effective way to reach a high volume of new traffic to websites. there are two ways of marketing through SU, the Viral one, login to the service, download the toolbar, submit your site and contact heavy users to give you a thumb up. the second one is to buy traffic, for the ridicules sum of $0.05 per user. meaning, for $1000 you'll get 20k unique visitors. worth the effort.

cheers
