I am wondering if this is wise at all. We have thousands of links, one way and reciprocal links in the search engines but Google recognized just about 30 of them and those where from obscure sites.
So, I am baffled by what they are doing. We had to stop our linking campaign because it is now obvious that it does not work.
I believe that they may recognize links from very authority websites but those kinds of links are near impossible to get.
One way to get around this would be to do an offline press release which could reach many media sites.
If these media sites publish your press release in their online sites, then this will work because Google would recognize them.
But an effective offline pres release could cost you a minimum of $500. It is not cheap, but it could be more effective than the online link campaign that is useless.

Just wondering where you confirmed that? Was it via Webmasters Central or the link: command? If it was the latter, my understanding is that in the general SERPs, the link command only brings a sample of indexed back links rather than an accurate report.
