Launching tatics?

What tatics have people used to launch websites from scratch?

I've heard of creating a buzz through a press release saying thats it's coming soon and having a count down timer.

and launching the site with a whole bunch of JV partners with big lists.

I seem to launch with a press release and it creates buzz, but then falls back to a steady few hits a day.

But whats the best tactic people have used to launch a new affiliate site?

The above is what i do when starting a new site, thats my way of launching it! lol
At the end of the day thats what will get people seeing your site and buying
