  Alternative domain hosts...to fasthosts

With all the problems recently with fasthosts, i'm consider taking my domains elsewhere, but have no idead where to start. All my domains are with fasthosts/ukreg, and the large majority are just housed doing nothing, and the rest have nameservers pointing to my websites hosted by other companies. I don't have any specific site hosting with fasthosts.

Can anyone recommend a domain host i can use? And how do i go about transfering them over to future renewals are with a new host etc? Will this cause any disruption to existing domains that are running when transfering?

Any help appreciated.

  Re: Alternative domain hosts...to fasthosts

I have many domains hosted with easily.co.uk. I am happy with them other than that the domain email addresses are being spoofed by spammers so I may be moving if/when I can find a better host.

Whatever you do, avoid godaddy as they have a reputation for holding your domain to ransom if anyone has a [invalid] spam complaint against you.

I like to move domains 90 - 60 days before renewal as you have to pay at least the next year's registration fee when transferring. Just unlock your domain with the current host, find out the tag if it is a .co.uk (usually listed on the whois info) and request the transfer with whoever you want to move to.
The current host may send you a mail with a link to confirm that you approve the transfer or you may need to include a 'key' which is only available when you log into your current host.

When a domain is transferred, no change is made to any of the DNS or MX records so there is no affect on the visibility of any of the existing domains.

I've been with namecheap.com for years now and can completely recommend them.

Easy to use and never had a problem.

Namecheap here too, although I host most of my .co.uk domains with TotalRegistrations.

Here's a golden rule - never, ever keep your domains with your web host. That way you can walk away from your host whenever you want, and they can't hold your domains to ransom.

Good advice. A lot of new webmasters don't do this and get stuck.
