... but seriously, money must be spent in one shape or another if you wish to succeed, and paying affiliates a % of sale is just as good, (providing the offering is good).

Go down to your library and pick up a book on marketing methods. Promoting an internet business is no different from promoting any other business - target your market.

A few tried and tested methods that work:

Advertise in the local press.

If you can sell over the phone - get yourself a virtual switchboard / answering service (PM if you need details)

If you have a car - make use of it as a mobile billboard.

Print off some cards / leaflets and hand them out.

Go down to your local market and see if you can get a spot for a week a month.

Whatever you do, it will cost you time and effort. Doing your own SEO is by far the most cost efficient method (you only have to do it once) and gets visitors to your site 100% of the time.

it can be done without paying anything out, once you've got some traffic coming in word of mouth helps, you've gotta give good customer experience to get that though.
