How important is PR?

Many of us still not aware what Page Rank is. For a new webmaster, this is really a strange phrase.

PR is very important to get your site recognize and have reputation. But how a site gets a PR?

SEO goes with PR... The more you promote, the more you got backlinks, and the more you got backlinks, the more your PR increase; and the more your PR increase, the more your position in search engine increase too..

As the others have said PR not serves no usefull purpose, it used to be a main factor in rankings, the better PR you had the higher up you would go. However, this has been changed and ranking relys on other factors more now.

It can give you an idea of how long the sites been around, and the number of backlinks they have, but thats it.

As I mentioned yesterday in another topic, I have a domain at number 1 in google with PR0, whereas the other 8 results on the page range from PR2 - PR5.

Bear in mind though that when asking for links a lot of webmasters will check your pr first (whether they believe in it's value or not they still do it).

Any other considerations aside, life gets easier when you have a PR, so it's worth having for that reason alone.
