Re: How to Promote Globally - Help Please!

Hi Sandy

If you have budget.
My advice would be to develop sub domains eg french.xxx.com , spanish.xxx.com etc.
Obviously have the content translated to the relevant language. (Don't use country specific domain such as .co.uk unless your prepared to but the actual ones, and that can get costly and country rules need to be adhered to.)

Then consult with an SEO company based in each country. Allocate a spend to each sub domain and utilise there skills.

Shouldn't be too expensive and in practice you can build on what they have done for you after a few months.
A guesstimate spend would be £1000 over 3 months per country specific sub domain.

If you don't have a spend of £1k each then you will struggle but it's still possible but I would then choose someone (A UK SEO Guy) to research this for you and this would probably cost a couple of hundred and hopefully he would find you a few hundred to a thousand directories. Bear in mind you will then need to submit to them and possibly have to pay.... Don't be tempted to use some auto-submit service, waste of time...

Ps.. I would research the SEO company as much as possible and I would obviously pick one that spoke good english.

Good Luck

It's a bit hard to appeal to everyone, especially if they come from different locations and cultures. But the key is relevant content, and that could be hard to do and would require a tremendous amount of resource. I suggest doing one first.

Re: How to Promote Globally - Help Please!

better domain names would be

francais.domain.com

use the sub domains in native langauge describing wht the thing ius you are selling.....you will then get max click throughs

Also host the subdomin in the local country

then get local links into the subdomain

Re: How to Promote Globally - Help Please!

One way to rank in different countries is to mention those countries within your content.

There is a very simple rule when it comes to being found around the world - if it is not on your site then you won't be found for it.
Have at least one page translated into the language of your target market to help you get this traffic - even US English is different from UK English. Use correct mark up to indicate the different languages (because search engines are not very good at guessing). If you use different directories for each language you can create mini-sites to attract this traffic.

One of the easiest ways to become international is to be listed in the regional Yahoo directories - for the most part these are still free to apply for, with no guarantee that you will be included.

A more time consuming method is to look for link partners hosted on IP addresses in the countries you want to target - the opposite of wanting only UK link partners when you want your site to target only UK traffic. This is about the only way you will be able to build ranking without creating a specific site for each region.

Here are my top picks that might be able to help you to get a lot of traffic to your site:

1. Great content - be it information, service, products... providing relevance and usefulness gives you higher chances of making a visitor into a customer
2. Forum and blog posting on relevant niche - you participate constructively and learn new things while promoting your site via signature.
3. Pay-Per-Click - done properly, best at getting target traffic faster on a direct marketing approach to your potential clients. This works well also in geo-targeting.
4. Targeted Link backs - another premium way of getting the right traffic to your site.
5. Article marketing - useful and relevant articles to your niche is a nice way of link baiting.
6. SEO - through link building - this will get you more traffic in the long run

Thumbs up Re: How to Promote Globally - Help Please!

Hello Sandy

First thing you must take care of is the nature of people, their living standards etc is different from country to country . You must understand the people, locality than prepare your product on the basis of that analysis. As mention if you have a single site along with only few pages than you must ensure that your site is ready with updated product and should be equipped with easy to use tools because you do not have much characters in your play. And launch the site in a single country first than see the reviews, results etc . In term you will also get time in making your brand value which will help you in getting promotion when you will launch your site in another country .And you can use the same process afterwards. The promotional activity you can perform is SEO,PPC(if you have budget),Forums,Reviews,Blogs,PR's. You can also do banner advertising in high traffic generating sites. You can also give advertisement in local newspapers,Magazines etc.

Or is it ok to write in uk english and then using babblefish or any other language translator , translate the same content and paste it in the site (creating new page).

How i can do SEO on different language. Because i don't know language then how to do seo. I am confused and eager to listen.

US English is easy - run with a US dictionary when you use the spell checker on your html editor. As there is such similarity in language, I would recommend writing a new page(s) with emphasis on what you most want to promote to the US market to avoid any duplicate content penalties with your UK English pages.

For the rest, I use the translation service at WorldAccent – translation services & multilingual layout
I just send them the raw html file for the pages I want translated. They give me a quote and a week or so later I pay them and they give me back the translated html file - all ready to load onto my server. (You may need to edit some links, but that is all - best to send the file in its final linking format before translation.) Remember to use translations for file names too, if they contain key words.

A lot of translation services do not translate all the text on the page. They 'don't see' the invisible text in the TITLE and META tags, nor the ALTs and TITLEs elsewhere in your code. Nor will they respect other tags like i, em, b, strong, etc which are important for SEO. There is nothing worse than getting back a translated page only to have all the html code corrupted by use of a poor html editor.

If you have text in images, you will need to ask for that to be translated, too, so that you can create new graphics.

What I am saying is: not all translation services are equal. Compared with the end result, the difference in price between quality and cheap translations is not worth the pennies saved.

SEO - if you have a well SEOed page to start with then all the likely search phrases will already be being given the correct weight by position and correct use of html tags. What I do for client sites is first get translated the 1-200 phrases that are important for SEO and then search for those translated phrases to assess the relevance of the results to the products I want to promote. If I get good results, all is well. If I don't get good results, specially for technical phrases, then it is a mater of searching for more relevant phrases/better translations. Once that is sorted, then I pass the revised phrase list back to the translator who uses that when they translate the actual html files.

Basically, the SEO rules are the same for all left-to-right text, just the language changes. The rules are more complicated for right-to-left text as all the words are 'back-to-front' but I doubt you will need to worry about many rtl translations.

I hope the above helps a little. Please PM me if you need any other info.
