  Question My second web site...

Hi,

I've just about finished by second affiliate site selling the "top ten christmas gifts" which I've seen advertised by various merchants. I'm using Firebox and Toys R Us product feeds and I know I've left it too late this year but really this site should be ready for next year now instead.

I've started to get traffic, averaging in late November in the eighties with a high of 117 visitors on the 2nd this month. Just wanted to get an idea of how I was doing really - any feedback is welcome! Site is at home - Top 10 Christmas Gifts.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Hi

Your site looks good. I would maybe increase the line spacing on the left navigation to make it easier to read and also make sure your site fits within a 800x600 resolution. Although this resolution is becoming obsolete, 12% of the internet population still use this screen size. I would also maybe make your site more of a christmas feel to it.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try and make it have more of Christmas feel - although its easier said than done when you're not a designer (more a developer me!). How about the stats - is the site attracting a good number of visitors for a month old site?

I'm still new to this AM stuff but loving it! I've got loads of ideas for niche sites but haven't got the time what with the full time job and everything else!

Hi mate, keep pressing on with it in your spare time. You have a reasonable site layout there that imo could very easily get sales. Its just about taking a little time to maybe re-write some of your product descriptions to make them unique and maybe leave the unique text to individual pages so to optimise certain phrases within the text.

Being a developer in my opinion is a better place to start than a designer. Just keep plugging whatever you feel is a niche and one will rank well in the end and bring in some dosh.

Good luck.

  Re: My second web site...

Feel you need to emphasise the 'top 10' toys by putting in a chart with numbers 1-10 etc, as at the moment, from a brief look (which is all most visitors will do) it just looks like a directory, and not even specifically for toys.

Nothing wrong with a directory of toys, but your title suggests visitors will be interested to know what are the top toys at the time, so you must concentrate your focus on improving that.

Hope its valid and helps

That is right. if your resolution is higher than 800x600 than you loose 12% of people. If it is site for webmasters, programmers etc. than everyone have higher resolution. But if you have gift site with hi-res, than you loose 12% of money!

As a search engine technologist, I tend to look at your site from a search perspective.

There are two things that I would recommend you to improve upon.

1) The search box is currently at the upper left corner. But, I suggest you put it to the center or upper right corner, as most people would expect it there.

2) When I searched for "wii", I find all sorts of links that have wii has part of the word. So, your search does not work as expected. You should consider enhancing your site search to make it user friendly.

Great site. I was just looking over it and i must admit i found some pretty cool things on there. The only problem i could see imediatly was that some items if i were to purchase them i would not be able to because when you go through to buy they are not available from that store. EG- the nintendo wii starter pack.
