I have a squidoo page which has been sitting in the top results of google for around 5 months now. Unfortunately, for the past 7 days it is no longer in the serps whenever I search for the keywords associated with the site.
Now recently, I posted an article onto ezine.com (using the same keywords as on squidoo) and the problem is that as soon as this article was indexed, my squidoo page disappeared.
The only reason I can think of as to why this might have happened is because of the duplicate content filter kicking in (Ive already experienced the sandbox effect). Although the article contained information which was similar to that posted on my squidoo page, Im pretty sure I made it unique as to avoid the duplicate content penalty.
Even so, I would have thought that since I posted the article AFTER posting the content on the squidoo page, that google would lower the serps for the ezine.com article rather than the original site?
Anyway, since I believe that the ezine article was the main problem, I decided to delete the article and hope that the squidoo page would rank again. The problem is that when I deleted the article, I received a warning from ezine saying something along the lines of:
"Are you sure you want to delete this article? If you decide to republish this article, it will be deemed as duplicate content."
So
am I right in thinking that somewhere in internet cyberland that this 'deleted' article still exists? Is this possible?
If the reason why the squidoo page no longer appears in top serps is because of perceived duplicate content, then it looks like theres really nothing I can do about it as long as this 'deleted' article remains out there. Somewhere.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
