Getting traffic to my blog

What methods other than forum posting and blog commenting can increase my traffic. Any tips will be more than welcome.

Getting more popular keywords into your blog posts:

Write press releases and get them published to google news, carrying links back to the original website.

Same with the social networks. Publish material written specifically with SEO in mind, to the likes of Digg, Propeller, Reddit etc. Done carefully and with a little thought this can give you your first "leg up" as it were. You can double up the effectiveness of this by setting up a MySpace for your blog, and actually blogging through myspace as well, which always ranks well on Technorati, (quick tip: if you plan to publish your own writing to the social networks, and your website is called "Robs Blog", don't set up a social network account as "Robs Blog" as self-publicity is frowned upon).

Watch YouTube vids related to your topic, and leave comments with your web address included.

Physically visit the big name search engines (google, yahoo etc) and submit your site. Don't leave it to them to come to you.

If you submit good quality posts your guaranteed traffic, also other bloggers will link back to good content ("link bait") and will find your content via bookmarks.

Link exchange - although old school is a good one.

also, facebook groups are good as is their market place, equally gumtree. Yahoo answers is another great place to try.

setup squidoo pages as well, and hubpages, these will help drive some traffic.

point to note about you tube, and i didn't know this until i get some inbounds to my site from it, when you put a you tube video in your blog, youtube automatically link to your site in the comments (like a trackback).

Things I learnt:

say stuff that no one else is saying

link out to everyone who has anything interesting to say in that area - they will see your traffic in their logs and link back to you when they have a relevant story

make commnets and posts on other people forums/blogs that are taking about what you talk about

The best method I found is to personally e-mail the webmasters of other sites in the same field whenever I posted something which may interest them. This works especially well with Top X lists or other things that are almost certain to be of interest to their readers.
