First affiliate site (sport) - would appreciate your view

Hi all;

This is my first attempt at an out-&-out made for affiliate site and I would really appreciate a bit of feedback from those experienced in the field.

Still tidying it up at the moment but the site design is close to completion.

Yet to work out how to configure my YouTube player for the right content but once thats done I see it as a big draw .

Many thanks for your input.

Looks good. I would include Liverpool specific banner ads if you must include any at all. I would personally remove the Google ads altogether - I doubt they are earning enough to warrant the levels they are dragging down your design by.

I would also credit your photos correctly - if the photographer/agency allow sites to use them.

I would agree with what the others have said - especially re the photos - unless they are your own then make sure you have permission to use them - many photographers even if they make them available for others to use, do so only for 'non-commercial' purposes, which would not cover your site.

Hi Purple. As the domain name is actually "myliverpoolfc" I would hope not to have any issues along those lines.

Some great comments there F&G. Thanks. Particularly about crediting photo's.

As for the google ads, I'm yet to find out if they are worth their presence. Depends how much traffic I can generate I guess. I wanted them specifically as they fit in with the format of the RSS news feed which is alongside on the right. But I coloured them to match the main content on the left, coming from the "hide the ads legally" school of thought.

Finding targeted Liverpool FC merchandise is tricky, but I'm still looking as ideally I would like only liverpool merchandise.

Thanks a lot for the comments guys and please keep them coming.

Thats wickid, thank you. I'll go check them out.

I just found a whole universe of products using an Amazon Affiliates account, which allows me to display pretty much the entire official Liverpool FC merchandising line for the sake of adding a couple of lines of code.

I put a gifts section up to see how it looks..and I'm playing with their a-store gadget currently, which is a shop in a box.

As I use Joomla for my website its easy to fully integrate the a-store, via an i-frame, to make it so the visitor never has to leave my site, which is always nice.

Thanks again F&G. Your input is appreciated.

Hey

Was looking at your site and amazon merchandise code very nice. Could you please let me know where i can read up more about this?

With regards your Youtube section all i can say is to be VERY careful. From the people I have spoken too its seen as copyright infringement and you could get into big trouble. I also think you will get in trouble for having a trademark 'liverpoolfc' in your domain. One further problem which you dont currently have but may down the line is publishing fixtures. Basically dont do it as football dataco will come down on you very very heavy (freethefixtures.com)

Apart from that goodluck with it all

The Amazon appears to be just the standard content banners that affiliates get from Amazon.

YouTube actually GIVES you the code to embed videos on your site. The one this site uses is in conjunction with Google and perfectly allowed.

I think the point about YouTube that Geordie was trying to make was that the content within the YouTube videos often breaches copyright of TV channels etc.

As he says, be careful, football media channels tend to be very aggressive in defending their copyright - and as he also says never show fixtures, not even the next match - they are all copyright and need a whopping great licence fee to get a licence to show them.
