  Promoting Locally

So, I have a website (Student Discount & Money Saving | Smoolah.co.uk) which gets a small stream of traffic which i'm planning on starting to more seriously promote (haven't really done any promotion with it yet).

The problem is i'm not sure which would be the best way to go about promoting it as the website's main selling point won't make any money at all (as all offline listings are free) so I can't really afford to put lots of cash into marketing it (some, but not loads).

I'm not 100% sure that adwords would be the best way either, because as far as i'm aware you can't target it to promote a city (in my case bristol).

Would do you think the best way of marketing it be with press releases - submitting them to the local papers, and as a sidepoint does anyone know of any good guides as to how to write one?

Any ideas?

Try speaking to the people who run the local uni papers. They're generally an unpleasent lot but with persistence I'm sure you could get a mention. Maybe offer to write an article outlining various ways to save online. Don't be too specific though, make sure the user is enticed to your site!

Do you mean you can't target Bristol on Adwords? Because you can. You can specify exactly the mile radius you wish to cover. Challenge is I think you will struggle with volume in terms of actual searches depending on how broad or long tail you go.

But make no mistake, if you wanted to target just Clifton, you could! If you need any advice, PM me

I had no idea - i'll look into it

I've currently got facebook ads running (clickthrough rate is low but it has resulted in at least 3 new users each day). Had a free $100 advertising credit so i'm still testing.

I've emailed UWE's (Western Eye) and Bristol's (Epigram) but no response yet.

P.S. I used to contribute to Western Eye and they're a good bunch of people

  Re: Promoting Locally

Good luck getting the student mag promotion. Perhaps you could drop a few fliers around the campus?

Nice logo by the way.
