Cool Have you ever set up a money making blog?

I have set up a blog concerning various student matters mainly based around making money online whilst at university. Its not making any money at the moment - it's called - My Student Blog

My question is - have you ever been able to develop a successful blog that has been worthwhile money wise?

At the moment - making money from it is not my objective -I want to get traffic to it - it has only been up 10 days - its also become a bit of a hobby for me!

Is this a good method to follow, and if so, what do you believe would be a suitable traffic count to warrant implementing a general affiliate scheme to it or google ads?

Thanks,

Joe.

Thumbs up Re: Have you ever set up a money making blog?

Joe, where was your blog when I was a university undergrad?
All I can say is great idea!

You made a good move setting up your blog with Wordpress. I think this is one of the best, if not the best, blog providers out there.

Blog maintenance can be challenging, but it is possible to make it successful. You said you have only been up for 10 days thus far. Keep blogging and using strategies like:
  • Including keywords in your blog content
  • Linking those keywords
  • Linking to other high traffic websites and blogs
  • Writing interesting posts on a daily basis
  • Posting genuine comments on other popular blogs that cater to the same audience (the goal is to bring that traffic back to your own blog)

These are just some ways to increase traffic to your blog. Wordpress has features to help you analyze your traffic stats, but don't forget Google Analytics is also a great tool to use for this.

Hope this helps you out.

Mate, blogs concerning 'making money online' is so saturated and competitive. Do a search in Google for make money online blog and see how many sites are out there - the big players make serious cash in this market. To get to their levels will take alot of time (if you can ever compete at all). I am not meaning to put you off here.

My advice would be to completely focus on the student aspect, make this your niche and you can quickly build up a loyal base of users. Once you have this traffic you can start pushing student related merchants etc

I have a money making website that has a blog component, but I've never made money solely from a blog. Wait, nevermind, I forgot about the blog I have right now with a few friends... So I guess I have, ha.

My friend,
I start blogging for earning huge returns. Affiliate programming
is such a source. I just make a forex blog updated it regularly, placed banners and get started. My affiliate Referforex.com program is easy and you can earn around $1000 per month. You just have to register there and paste their banner in your site or blog. For every user getting registered through your link or trade being made by your link you will get paid. It is quite easy and profitable.

Cheers

Yeah, I got one running at Market My Life. Making money from the blog is not the intention though - the theme is there purely to attract traffic. The real purpose is to drive links and deeplinks out to my affiliate sites as well as to provide a small link farm for my own sites. Been running since September and just starting to take root. Traffic levels are not high but never are in the first couple of months so I'll keep it going. I get a fair few referrals across to my affiliate sites and the sites that I link too have ranked slightly higher (by a few pages) in Google compared to similar sites with no deep links so something is paying off.

Re: Have you ever set up a money making blog?

I made the switch from using Adsense on my blogs to just posting affiliate links some months back and was shocked at how much money started coming in. I had blogs covering a bunch of different niches, though. When you're starting out with just one blog it will take you time to make money.

The smartest thing to do is to post news or review pages where you talk about the benefits of specific products. Then make sure you post an affiliate link out to that product. People will find your review page in the search engines if it's a popular product (you'll get more traffic though after your blog ages in the search engines, so give it time.)

Dan
