Where's the best place for a first link to come from these days?

Blog? Article or link in comments/sig
Google sitemap
Link on Long established site?
Article on article site?

I usually place a link on a large ad site like Gumtree or Craigslist. Due to their nature they are constantly being spidered and indexed by Google, and consequently new sites get "found" very quickly.

Also do a Google Sitemap right from the start and submit that, but I find a link on a web site gets the site found quicker by google than the sitemap.

Hi there,

good forum links get cached easily and is added quickly in the sites back links. even articles on high PR sites with relevant category get recognized quickly. I you like to add blog in this list then it is very important to update it regularly with unique articles.

Any link is a good link, but try and get your link within content and towards the top of the page.
