Help wanted attaching Audio files

Bonjour ma petit experts en web developments...

I can't seem to get my head around attaching audio files to my website, I don't want those sad midi files, I want fab stereo music coming out to my visitors. Has anyone got any ideas where I should look, how I can do this.

In front page I have the option to link directly to a website that has music, when I tested it it did not work.
Do I have to compress music files? Does any one know any good resourses for the novice in this area?

Any help would be appreciated.

Yuck! ahhh that must be the most horrid thing you could do to a website!!

Also the worse thing you can do to kill revenue. Like when your surfing at work and the Teletubbies theme pops up and your boss twigs your not really working.. If I hit a site with sound on it I close it straight away.

I agree.....adding sound to a webpage without giving prior warning will often result in the same reaction from a user as sending SPAM, IMHO, in that it's unsolicitated and unexpected.

But I would like to continue the theme. You are probably right re: Rev killer, but this is really for experimental purposes. My websites never get finished, they are all for trying out new scripts, or new technology. I just really want to see how things are done. Streaming looks like fun.

How did you get on with finding suitable audio software to use with your website ?

I've tried adding an audio greeting that visitors can choose if they want to click on or not. So far I've managed to record my voice on to an mp3 then upload it to a server then create a button that links to it, but it always opens the windows media player slap bang over my website when I click on the button, annoying !

There are a number of audio generators on the market, that I've looked at, but not been impressed with so far.
