Looking for 2mins from 56k users

I've been getting a lot of feedback since recently changing lots of Freebieholics. However, some of it contradicts some of the rest, and i can't check it out as it speed related.

Some people have said 'wow, it's fast', and it is to me on 1Mb, but others are saying they gave up while waiting.

Can a couple of 56Kers tell me what they think? Don't judge the home page, it doesn't do bugger all. If you could click free stuff, and then choose a freebie category with a few in, magazines perhaps, that'd be cool.

Carl,

Just tried the magazines section with a 56K dial up and the page appears almost instantly.

9 seconds for me in IE6...like the layout Carl doesnt seem as spacious as before but it's more focused,

on a constructive critisism note..the "FREEbieholics STUFF" header is a bit confusing for me,

I think if I was a first timer/casual surfer "FREE STUFF" may be the only thing I'd remember it just doesnt seem too clear but then again I cant remember my own birthdays so that means nowt...

looks nice and clean though so thats a big plus

Thanks Guys

Shane, your probably browsing in 800x600, which it used to be designed for. This time i opted to design for 1024. I will be going over things and smartening up for 800, but that'll be in about a month when the rest of the site is in place.

I found it pretty fast and I have the worst dial-up known to humanity.

One reason why it might bog down is that mini-store content links - depending on their position on the page - may prevent other content loading until they've loaded themselves. So, for example, 90% of your page might be waiting for the ASOS servers to serve the ASOS mini-store (Dixons was worst for me - 3 minutes sometimes).

I had this problem on mine with banners, so I included a toggle display / don't display banners at the top of the screen. Now it's much faster and AFAIK, nobody has every switched banners on when searching.

I like the new layout Carl.

You'll glad to know it loads up pretty fast on a cable modem
