  PHPPage keeps scrolling to end

My index page keeps scrolling to the bottom when it is loaded. I assume it is because the browser follows the pages progress as it loads the news from the SQL database, so I assume it's a common issue for anyone with PHP pages that pull long chunks of text. Anyone know how to fix it? Either stopping it scrolling in the first place or sending it to the top when the page is finished loading would be fine. I assume I could just have an anchor right at the top and reference to that, but I'm sure there's something that will stop it being so simple. I'll try it tonight though. Anyone got any suggestions/code?

the page is <a href="http://www.whereisthematrix.com/index.php" target="top">here</a> if anyone wants a look, but I'm sure everyones fed up of hearing about this site now.

Hi,

It's not a PHP problem, or not one I've come across before!

The HTML for your page looks a bit mixed up there are 2 HTML, HEAD and BODY areas on the page.

your tagboard generates a whole stand alone page of HTML which doesn't really work just inserted into the middle of another page.

Hope that makes sense....

Ouch this html is a mess as bertm point out you need to sort out the duplicate HTML, HEAD and BODY tags.

Your problem with the scrolling stems from the second body tag which contains:

onLoad="window.scrollTo(0,99999);"

remove this and that problem will be solved.

ah. Had a look and you're right. The tagboard is a hunk of junk. It came to me as a 20 kilobyte file with everything stored in the script, including the help popups and everything else, so I tore it all out into external files and got the size down to 8.5 kb, which is a bit of an improvement in my opinion. The scrolling thing happens with the original file as well though, so it wasn't my hacking that did it. I'll see what I can do, but I might have to get rid of the "view all" function.

Yup, that's done but now the popup is displaying funny 'cos I took the style reference out.
Who cares. I've lost patience with this script now. I specifically paid for this because I wanted a well written script because of all the page reloads and the churning it could give the SQL database. As it is, I could have written a better script and I've only been doing this PHP lark for a month or two. waste of money if you ask me.

Well, at least it's stable. It's working ok-ish without a view all popup, and the script now clocks in at 7.97 kb. I'm mortally dissapointed with this script, and I'm going to ask for my money back. OK it wasn't much, but it's the principle.

  The plot thickens...

It seems that the tagboard I've got is very similar to one distributed by webfroot for free. The webfroot versions I've seen seem to work better, which leads me to think one of two things:
1: Sensation stole it off webfroot and codged the code in the process.
2: Webfroot stole it off sensation and fixed all the crappy code.
Who knows...

I've been trying to find a replacement, but none of the others seem to work as well if at all - they either glitch, have massive file sizes or don't have a SSi version.
If anyone knows a decent (free) one could they let me know?
