  Do you make users register?

If you have a website where you require a user to register, maybe to collect details, provide a newsletter etc etc then a couple of hints;

1. Deny anyone who registers an email address with @mailinator.com
Mailinator allows someone to make up an email address on the fly in 2 seconds. They then use this as a one off to register your site, and within an hour - the email address is no longer valid. This means that when you send out a newsletter, it will be bounced, however the person who registered will still have an account or login/password

2. Check www.bugmenot.com and see if your website is listed.
1 person registers on your site, and shares their login details with the world. This will reduce your audience. I have checked a few peeps sites, and have found about 85% to be listed here.

If anyone else has useful hints/tips, please add....

If your site is on bugmenot, login with the credentials they supply, then change the password.

That will put them off..... oooooo for about a day if I am lucky

The mailinator.com is deffo worth blocking tho. Saves lots of bounced emails.

  Another one to block

Have found another domain that you will want to block from allowing users to join with;

@spamgourmet.com

Again its like mailinator.com - it allows you to create a one time use email address to register with a site, and then receive no more info from them every again.

And some more;
sneakemail.com
trashmail.net
Jetable.org
NetMails.NET

Nice One......really useful.

My forums are subject to a lot of muppets trying to sign up and browse the ladies boob chat.

Great thread

Itd be quite a laugh to get revenge on these people
Just detect the login they have published and then redirect to a new page maybe with a little animation

"Unauthorised Access Violation"
"Erasing Hard Drive in 3 seconds ............."

  Re: Do you make users register?

Hi

(resurrecting this thread!)

I just got an email about bugmenot - first I'd heard of it.
(I think it's a firefox plugin. Is that right?)

Anyway, the email went on to say

"... See any passwords listed in there? If you do then you should first cancel those memberships or delete the accounts listed on the site. You don’t want those to be used anymore. Next, there’s a link that says “Report this site.” Give a reason and submit the form and your site will be BANNED from BugMeNot. No one can ever use the service to share logons for your site again."

I couldn't find the 'report this site' but I'm not using Firefox
and no login details could be found for my site concerned.

I'm sure this is just as valid as when Frostie raised the issue two
years ago (when we were all still in love with Google! Lol)
