how can I open a .gz file??

trying to download and open a csv from Trade Doubler - haven't done it for a while - and its downloading as a .gz file

when I transfer this into excel its just a load of gobbledegook

can someone (kindly) explain in very simple terms how I go about 'unlocking' this - I'm sure I've done it before - but, you know how it is, you can only carry so much info at any time ....

much appreciated

cheers

  Winzip or Winrar

If you have Winzip or Winrar on your PC they should both be able to handle this file.

Right click, and choose open with - then select either zip or rar

lakrasia is an unknown quantity at this point
Hi Elaine,
Not sure if this is your problem, but instead of opening it in Excel, open a blank sheet and then click on Data Import External Data. Also if you're using winzip, check that it is set to open into folders.

Maybe you know that already, but I got in quite a mess when I forgot to do that.

Hi Elaine - sorry about this post but I couldn't resist it

I read your post and thought to myself that someone had recently asked this question so I did a search and found the old thread

Anyway

I would recommend getting hold of

http://www.7-zip.org/ which I use for anything that winzip doesn't seem to like.
