  Cross Browser compatable designs

Hi

I am currently designing a new site layout using CSS, I chose CSS mainly for my own development reasons, always looking to improve my skills :-) Anyway on researching other affiliate and non affiliate sites, some well established, using Firefox 1.5 I am surprised how many layouts do not render properly but are ok in Internet Explorer 6 :-(

With many more people turning to Firefox and other alternative browsers wouldn't it be prudent to make sure our sites render properly in all the popular browsers or is it considered too much work or even impossible?

Or maybe some sites are doing extremely well and don't feel the need to look further than IE, maybe they are not aware of FireFox etc (don't believe that for a moment).

Ultimately would it make for a better user experience and increase sales from visitors that may have left in the first few seconds due to rendering problems.

Anyone got any thoughts?

Andy

Get opera.

View --- style --- user mode and look at the options there

They have emulate text browser. Can be interesting to use the other options to see how others *might* see your site.

Firefox is prob worth installing to check in.

Also change your text size and see how your site reacts.

A good test is to visit a friend and see how it looks on their settings.

I always test our sites under Opera, IE and Firefox (Sometimes and Safari).
I don't care too much about the other browsers but all our sites are fine
under the "main triad"

I also check how do the sites look on small resolution/display (15-17") and on larger - 21".

When make a site I usually test it under FF and if it's OK I do
the necessary alterations for Opera, IE, etc.
