Adobe pdf File Size Help

Hi All

I created an A4 sized detailed diagram (lots of lines and shapes) in Photoshop, saved it as a pdf (2.5MB file), and then used Adobe Professional to insert this into an existing pdf (0.2MB file) creating a new 2.7MB file.

I then tried resaving the new 2.7MB pdf again to try and get the file size down, but alas no joy.

Bit of a long shot, but does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could get the file size down??

I believe the problem is as you created the original PDF in photoshop all this is going to be is a bitmap saved into a PDF document. Its the bitmap that is causing the size problem.

Lowering the dpi of the original (before saving as a pdf) image will reduce its size, although this will affect the quality pretty badly.

Ideally if your diagram consists of line and diagrams then is would have been better creating this in something like illustrator as vector line art which would reduce the filesize greatly.

With bitmaps in PDFS its always going to be a trade off between size and quality where vectors are scaleable and do not suffer qulaity loss.
