  Email User Authentication Solution

I knew a company years ago called mailkey.com (looks like they've gone under??). But what it did was when someone emails you they get an email back asking them to verify themselves before allowing the email through.

I can't seem to find anything that does that, even though I'm sure I've seen a merchant using it lately. The problem is that I don't know what the correct term for the solution is!

Can anyone recommend a company that offers that solution, or could someone tell me what the term is for what I'm looking for?

Cheers,

Lee

There is a popular open source effort called TMDA (Tagged Message Delivery Agent) that you can setup on your own email servers to do just that. Keywords to use looking for people providing such services include "email challenge response" - quite a few adwords on that search....

http://www.google.com/search?q=email+challenge+response

Some guy's even written a Squirrelmail plugin for TMDA

Hope this helps!

I've got a client using

http://www.spamarrest.com/

I think they call it a "challenge/response" approach.

Cheers Fraser, I've started using it.

It's only been going an hour and it looks like that around 55% of my email is spam - which is less than I thought.

They've got an affiliate program if anyone's interested.

They despamify upto 5 email accounts for just $5.95 a month or $45 for a year. Bargain me thinks.

No problem - glad it is of use. I have been thinking about starting to use it myself too but have been trying out an outlook extension first.

I definitely be interested to know how you get on using it over the longer term.

I used mcaffee anti-spam for a couple of months but you still had to download the emails then it sorted them based on their criteria. But you still had to go through the spam folder and check to see if they incorrectly tagged something.

I've hooked up two accounts with spam arrest and have started pre-authorising incoming emails. They have a webmail type system where you can do this and see which emails are waiting for authorisation by the user - but you can block them if you wish.

For me it saves a good few minutes every day having to wait for outlook to download uncessary emails and then sort and delete.

It's especially good if you go going on holiday as it collates the incoming mail from several email addresses.

For about £3.50 a month you can't really argue.

Next thing - get my hotmail to go through it. Would love to see how it handles that much spam!

Programme called mailwasher
it just downloads the headers from the server you tick the boxes if you want to keep them and just mark the rest as spam then press the button it then deletes all emails marked as spam from then on and if your isp allows it you can even bounce the emails back
works with hotmail too

This sounds good for me. I have had an e-mail account for years which I use for absolutely everything such as affiliate logins so didnt want to change as it would be such a huge job to change. Currently get 100's of spam e-mails a day so presume this would be a good solution as currently use Norton spam stuff which is ok but you still have to sort through for real e-mails that slip through. Does anyone else have any feedback for this?
