Does anyone know how accurate this method is to see how many people save your site as a favourite?
1) Add a FavIcon.ico to your site (http://www.chami.com/html-kit/services/favicon/)
2) Let a day go by
3) Open up your logs
4) Look at the requests for the favicon
5) If the server code is 200 then it's someone adding your site as a favourite
or
If the server code is 302 then its a returning user
or
If the server code is 404 you didn't do 1) properly?
Is there a more scientific way of doing it?

The new IE7 displays the favicon in the address bar and tabs regardless of whether the user has added the site to their favourites.
This affects AWStats which displays a too large "Add to Favourites" number. It would probably also mess up "Add to Favourites" figures in any other stats package.
