etomite CMS

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone uses etomite CMS http://www.etomite.org/ and if anyone would know if this can be set-up on fasthosts?

First time trying to set-up my own and any help would be appreciated

It looks pretty good but I don't know anything about it. You may want to take a look at Joomla... it is well supported and has a whole bunch of useful extensions.

Fasthosts would be OK as long as you have PHP. Don't think Fasthosts will let you use mod_rewrite or .htaccess... but I may be wrong - you really need it for SEF - search engine friendly url's.

Thanks for the reply, have a mate using etomite and its pretty flexible, not sure I want to attempt Joomla, seems harder to customise for a non techi chap like me. I have some clear ideas about what I want CSS, H tags, content etc

Will check mod_rewrite with fast shosts as I would want that, just have an old account that I am not using at the moment so thought this would be a good start...!

I don't know if you remeber, I spoke to you about Joomla before, you got time for a chat on MSN over the next few days?

Doh... yes remember now. Don't have MSN - worked hard to convince my daughter what a waste of time it was... can't tell her one thing and do something else.

You need to check Fasthosts... I had an account with them years ago and you didn't even get php as standard.

My advise is to go with a hosting comany that uses cpanel and fastico... install Joomla in seconds. Can't see it would be harder to customise than anything else.

Joomla has fantastic support and lot's of add-on's (extensions), so it shouldn't be hard to do what you want.

There are quite a few good open source cm systems around. Why not install a local apache/php server on your pc and have a play.

Or go for plan a - at least you know it will all work
