Bots and Spiders Access only

I'm building a new site and I want all spiders and bots to be able to trawl the pages but direct all website users to a "Coming Soon" page. Is there any variable passed that I can use in php to do this? Also any cons?

You can do this through a variety of means but I wouldn't advise it as its 'cloaking' and may get your site banned from google before you even start.

The 2 best methods would be

1) UA delivery
2) IP delivery

Both have potential problems, but are (relatively) easy. Combined IP / UA delivery works best, but can get quite technically complicated. As Barry notes, this kind of activity may be inviting a ban. Why would you want to stop people seeing your content?

If the sites not ready, nothing should get in - if it is, open the doors
