Can't suggest any mods, but certainly adding these email addresses to the ban list reduced the problem for me...

*@web.de
*@bestboyfilms.org
*@mail.ru
*@cashette.com
*@zmur.com
*@gkwv.com
*@oqjs.com
*@epill.info
*@ufbh.com
*@rvpy.com
*@asianewage.info
*@agerealty.info
*@neomailpro.com
*@bonbon.net
*@refiras.info
*@freepizzamail.org
*@mailerrrr.con <-- not a typo

Thanks for the tip, I had not done that yet, some of those e-mail addresses are familiar.

I use these on mine:

First of all make sure you have your boards 'Enable account activation' set to Admin. That's so they cant start posting without your say so.

Install this: admin_delete.zip

Now when you have a new user click on their name where it says 'The newest registered user is' and you'll go straight to them where you'll find some new fields.

You can delete them from there if they are unwanted.

You will also need: sig_disable.zip

This will stop them putting their website details on when they register but they can be put on later once, or if, you have accepted their registration.

I'll leave these two files on my server for a month so if someone else wants to use them they can.

They are also clean but for peace of mind please scan them first.

Re: Antispam Mod recommendations for phpBB

Hi,

The sig & url disable mentioned above is proving to be very
good for me so far and is extremely simple to implement.
I added it a early last week and it has slashed the number
of dodgy registrations to virtually zero.

In addition I restrict new members from emailing other members
until they have posted X number of messages. I block the display
of url's to non-members so this reduces the incentive for spammers
and means that Google etc doesn't pick up any dodgy links from my
site.

Thanks to davidcragg for the list of email addy's - I have some of them
already and will add yours as well!

Cheers

Steve

Hi David,

Thanks for your ban list, here's mine too:

*@cashette.com
*@bestfreemall.info
*@lopigax.com
*@web.de
*@mail.ru
*@askbritneyspears.info
*@dsmemailslist.info
*@wwwfreemail.info
*@gawab.com
*@your-alternative-email.info

Thanks Harriers9, that mod to stop them putting there web address in at signup will be really useful on my forum as even though i've setup the forum to approve new registrations manually (by an admin) the spammers were still putting in links and appearing as the new user before they were verifiied.

Re: Antispam Mod recommendations for phpBB

Hi,

Using the same method as the sig & url disable above I am also
going to block the ICQ field as this seems to be another favourite
of the forum spammers. The sig & url one catches most of them
and I think that ICQ addition will sort out most of the remaining ones.

Cheers
