  CMS System

Hi Guys,

I am after a simple CMS system for a friend which has a photogallery a bit like this site.

I have been scouring the net but so far have not been able to find a system. If anyone has any ideas of what direction to go down I would greatly appreciate it as I am having no luck at all. Don't know whether its me being dumb in searching the net for the wrong terms.

Thanks guys. Any sort of help would be appreciated.

If you're just after the full screen bit when you find the final picture, there's a thing called slimbox which I found as part of this Joomla theme

You may need to buy the theme and dig it out of the code

I've seen some similar stuff on some wordpress blogs also

Thanks for the pointers guys! Its more for him to be able to just plug in and go if you know what I mean but I usually code everything from ground up personally thats customised to me. I generally don't use something for images etc as its usually done with the database for quickness and if things take off I finalise a backend.

Hes just after something for ease of use etc and id imagine a CMS is exactly that but the photo gallery is a key point he is after. He has limited technical knowledge but can fire up dreamweaver and do minor tweaking.

Really appreciate the pointers guys im going to look into both.

Thanks!

I think i'll advise him to go with the Joomla option. Its because he only has access to PHP/MySQL. Is it easy to customise the look if you are PHP savy? I can see its going to have to be me

  Re: CMS System

The templates in Joomla are completely separated from the content so you've got total flexibility over the design if you knwo a bit of PHP so you can see where the different page elements slot in, and some CSS then the world's your oyster.

If you're after a quick and easy way of doing it there are stacks of free templates, or ones for £20 or so that you can start with as a base and modify as you like until it looks nothing like the original.

  Re: CMS System

Is that what that rocket site is? Its $50 for 3 months access to the templates. The main point to that one is the photo gallery is pretty good and I think exactly what he is after

I'll probably take that one and hack it to bits to look nothing like that But based on what your saying it sounds spot on.

Suppose it be a nice seperation from what I usually do and might find it useful for some of my own work going forward.

Thanks for the pointers Stephen I owe you one. If we meet sometime in the future at a G2G pull me for a pint

Having looked at it mate that Joomla seems pretty good so far. Im starting to think i'll use it myself for some of my none affiliate websites Pretty good going software. I know about the CMS scene but ive always used my own stuff. This might be a more streamlined way going forward of freeing up more of my own resource

Nice one!

  Re: CMS System

I've used it for a couple of years now and whilst it has its hiccups, 9 times out of 10 it's quicker than building from scratch and more likely to be extendable if the project takes an unexpected turn. There's a mass of help on forums and a couple of books on developing sites with it too if you get into it.

The other one I've used a bit is Drupal, but the back end isn't as easy to use if you have to hand it over to non-techie users.

Yeah i'll probably look into this a bit more. Its extremely useful

I'll probably stick with Joomla as its probably just about right for someone else taking it over as long as they don't mess with certain settings...

The ease of swapping a template over is fantastic. Quite impressed. Will certainly save some time in getting some projects up and running.
