Expression Engine - anyone used it?

Been poking around some more CMS systems for a magazine site recently and someone recommended this:
ExpressionEngine - Publish Your Universe!

Wondered if anyone has used it at all?

An old colleague of mine swears by it, he's used it for a range of sites. You can see an example of it at his own blog - and he's got a bit of a small section on it.

Hello.

Okay, i have delt with EE a little but it wasn't my cup of tea to be honest, i don't like the theming method you have to use on this.

Since i can't say to much about the system as i haven't really used it i could tell you some recommendations.

Textpattern : Now, for me this is the way to go, the theme could not be easier and it has a large section of plugins and template if you choose to have one.

Downside is that the interface on admin panel isn't too appealing, to me atleast.

My rating 4.5/5

Symphony21 : More a CMS for developers and it hasn't been free for as long as others so the community around this script isn't as big as it could / should or would like it to be.

The interface is, in one word sexy but like i say it's a developers CMS

My Rating 3.7/5

And just to show you what txp can do.

Thanks, hope it helps

Re: Expression Engine - anyone used it?

Thanks guys, very handy.

What I want to use it for is a site that has a number of different types of content:
News
Contact directory
supliers directory
events
profiles
etc etc
also some document management

To do this, most of the other CMS systems I've used need modules built from the ground up. EE seems to be able to cope more easily with each category of information to have different fields without going back into the code & database to do it.

e.g. an event will have a date, a location, maybe something about facilities, some contact details. Internal contacts will have different fields from supplier contacts and so on.

I could do this myself in PHP and Mysql, but I want some other people to be able to contribute to the site, and coding the admin section is beyond me.
