Personally I would never use one, but then I`m a developer :-)
I think whichever one you get, it will never fit in perfectly with your site, so it would be much better to design one to your exact specifications that works the way you want it to, rather than having to fit round it.
They aren't as complicated to create as people think, and although you`d have to pay someone to do it, it would be well worth the money.
Going to be doing a website with online ordering, what e-commerce package would you lot recommend? Going to be integrated with our current website.

Depends on what exactly you want out of the cart.
For a freebie try CRELoaded, but this will cost you in development time.
CREloaded is basically an OScommerce mod with most of the major plugins pre installed.
For a commercial package, that should be reasonably easy to change template try x-cart.
If you go for any of the FREE / opensource packages you may find yourself shelling out on a programmer to customise it to your needs.
